The purpose of Redeemer is to impact the people of Santa Rosa Beach with the good news about Jesus. Our desire is to see the Holy Spirit come and convict sinners to turn to the cross and be forever changed by the gospel and brought into new life, into eternal fellowship with the Father, which is our greatest joy, our sweetest pleasure, and may it ever be our most treasured gift. We are the workers appointed to be sent out into this harvest that is abounding and plentiful in Santa Rosa Beach, He has allowed us to see Him, to know Him, and therefore to be His witnesses to make Him known among the lost.
We have been given a task that is impossible for us, how can we make such a great God known? How can we share this Good News well, in such a way that people will understand, and be drawn to repentance? How will we reach those who are too far gone, who are done with God, who refuse Him, who refuse to hear about Him, who refuse to submit to Him, who refuse to let Him heal them? How do we reach the addict, the depressed, the buddhist, the atheist, the criminal, and the complacent? We can’t, with man this is impossible, only God can do this. Only God can make the blind see and the deaf hear, only God can raise the dead and replace a heart of stone with a heart of flesh. So then if we know that we can do nothing apart from Him, what are we to do but to call upon Him?
Oh church, please let us not think lightly of the riches of His mercy and grace, let us respond to His Word, let us respond to His command to pray and seek Him with everything that is within us. This is when He comes, when His people pray, this is when He moves, when His Bride calls upon Him, when His children plead before their Father. May our hearts be burdened so deeply for our community, oh that He would place in us a yearning too deep, too powerful to be put into words. May we be utterly broken for His Kingdom to come and for His will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. He has given us the sweetest gift of allowing us to be apart of accomplishing His purposes, may we charge to Him with all that we have to take hold of it!
And so as a Church we are joining together in a 40 day fast leading up to the launch of Redeemer to call upon our God to come. For Him to come humble us as a church and make us empty vessels, simply carriers of His presence that He may make Himself known through us. For Him to come and move upon every person in Santa Rosa Beach, to prepare their hearts to hear this Good News that we carry that they may be granted devastating conviction, true repentance, and new life in Christ.
When we fast we align our bodies with the state of our spirit, in fasting we say “God, more that my body needs food, your people need You. More than I want food I want You to come, more than my body hungers for food, my soul hungers for Your glory.”
When we fast the Holy Spirit sanctifies us, let us pay close attention to what proceeds forth from our hearts when we aren’t medicated by food, that we may bring our sinful tendencies before the Lord that He may cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
When we fast we become more like Jesus; in the way that He prepared for His work of ministry(Matt 4:2), in Kingdom mindedness, to make doing the will of our Father our only nourishment (John 4:32-34).
For the sake of Christ’s glory going forth, for the sake of our own sanctification, and for the sake of Santa Rosa Beach, we are asking for all who are burdened for the sake of the gospel, starting September 8th, to commit to one day a week every week leading up to October 18th to fast from food and to fervently pray. For 40 days, every day, there will be at least one person (hopefully more) fasting and praying for God to bless the launch of Redeemer, that the Holy Spirit would be undeniably present. And as a family, we want to be praying for one another while we are fasting. So we want to ask that on the days that you are not fasting, that you would be continually praying for those who are, that we would stay laser focused and that we would not fall into temptation.
I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem;
they will never be silent day or night.
You who call on the Lord,
give yourselves no rest,
and give Him no rest till He establishes Jerusalem
and makes her the praise of the earth.
